Location Description
Kannapolis, NC is home to the North Carolina Research Center. When completed, the 350 acre campus will house the most state-of-the-art laboratory in the nation. The 311,000-square-foot core research building is scheduled to open in 2008. It will feature an 80,000 square foot core laboratory which will be available for use by any research institute or company located on the research campus.
Four UNC schools will create a new research center named the Nutrition Research Institute. NC State University will establish an Institute for Fruit and Vegetable Science. These will be located in two separate buildings currently under construction on the campus.
An economic impact study conducted in October 2006 estimated that 5,535 research and other jobs at the NCRC have the potential to attract an additional 9,291 biotechnology jobs to Cabarrus and Rowan Counties by 2032, resulting in a total of 13,616 new jobs in Cabarrus County and 4,520 new jobs in Rowan.
